Curators’ Council
ArtInsight understands contemporary art as a living intellectual, emotional, and material practice. It engages with the present while drawing on historical, cultural, and personal narratives. It is not defined by a particular medium or style, but by inquiry, intention, and the relationship between idea, form, and context.
Artistic selection is guided by ArtInsight’s Curatorial Board, bringing together different professional perspectives to ensure that artists and artworks are considered through critical dialogue rather than individual taste or commercial potential alone.
How the council works
Our curatorial evaluation is based on six interconnected principles:
CONCEPTUAL INTEGRITY
The work is grounded in a meaningful and intentional artistic inquiry.
Distinctive voice
The artist demonstrates an individual position and artistic language rather than merely reproducing prevailing tendencies.
Formal & material coherence
Medium, technique, scale, and presentation meaningfully contribute to the work.
Aesthetic strength
The visual, material, or spatial language is deliberate and capable of sustaining attention.
Contextual relevance
The work establishes meaningful relationships with the cultural, historical, social, or artistic contexts in which it operates.
Intellectual & emotional
resonance
The work invites engagement that extends beyond immediate visual experience.

CURATOR
Marina Hakobyan
Graduated from the StateAcademy of Fine Arts.Since 2006, she has been amember of the Union ofArtists of Armenia. Since2016, she has served as alecturer at the Departmentof Art History and Theoryat the State Academy ofFine Arts of Armenia. As of2020, she assumed the roleof director at the NationalGallery of Armenia.
CURATOR
Davit Mosinyan
Holds the title of a doctor inphilosophical sciences andis an associate professor atthe YSU Department ofHistory and Philosophy. Hiswork has been presented atinternational conferences invarious countries.Mosinyan's academicinterests span thephilosophy of history,diaspora theory, andaesthetics.

Aram Hovhannisyan
is a composer, hasgarnered internationalrecognition with awards,commissions fromprestigious ensembles, and has played a significant rolein the music scene as theco-founder of"QuarterTone," the artisticdirector of the"Crossroads"contemporary musicfestival, and vice-rector atYerevan Komitas StateConservatory
CURATOR
Sona Harutyunyan
Is an art historian, curator,and cultural policy expert.She has led majorinternational culturalprojects, includingArmenia’s participation inthe Venice and BeijingBiennales, and served asAdviser to the Minister ofCulture. As founder ofKulturDialog Armenien, shepromotes interculturalexchange andcontemporary Armenianart. Harutyunyan is amember of UNESCO’sICOM and has receivedmultiple awards for hercontributions to Armenianculture.
CURATOR
Vasken Brutian
Is an architect, designer, and creative director who founded Ardēan to bridge Armenian heritage with contemporary design. He led the exhibition “Breath” at the Cafesjian Center, created with TUMO students and inspired by medieval Armenian thinkers. A strong advocate for design innovation, Vasken actively shapes Armenia’s design scene through education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
CURATOR
Garegin Yeghoyan
Is a contemporary architect and founder of ARCHcoop, known for integrating modernist design with traditional Armenian architecture. He has developed numerous private residences, public buildings and commercial spaces, using local and contemporary building materials to create refined and locally rooted structures. In 2018, he published Contemporary Villas in Armenia, a monograph reflecting his architectural philosophy and contributions to modern Armenian architecture.
CURATOR
Lilit Meliksetyan
Is a literary scholar, translator, and educator who heads the Department of Russian and World Literature and Culture at the Russian-Armenian University. With expertise in comparative literature, art history, and translation studies, she has been teaching at RAU since 2002. In addition to her academic work, she is also an art curator and exhibition organizer, developing cultural projects that bridge literature and visual art. She regularly conducts masterclasses and lectures for scholars across Armenia and the CIS. A recipient of the Pushkin Medal and several international recognitions, Lilit actively contributes to the advancement of literary and cultural studies in Armenia.
CURATOR
Armenak Grigoryan
Is an artist, art historian and curator. He graduated from the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Graphic Art, in 2008 and defended his PhD in Art History in 2011 with the thesis The Historiography of Armenian Medieval Art in the Armenian Periodical Press of the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries. In 2009–2010 he completed the Cultural Project Management programme at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Yerevan. Grigoryan has participated in numerous projects as both artist and curator, and curated the 2017 Festival of Alternative Art at the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art in Yerevan. He is currently a professor of drawing and sketching at the State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia, where he leads studio teaching and contributes to curriculum development. He is also a member of the Art Studio at the Ashot Johannissyan Research Institute in the Humanities.

Artists may apply through an open application process, while inclusion remains selective. Submissions are considered in relation to both these principles and ArtInsight’s broader curatorial direction. Non-selection reflects a question of alignment at a particular moment rather than a universal judgment of artistic worth.
